Hurried re-planning for my Dresden Files GURPS game is the thing today. One of my players unfortunately had to drop out temporarily due to his 40+ hour work week along with a full course-load at school – he’s working on his Masters in … something highly technical – so I had to rush and figure out what to do. There is only a single PC active here, Howard Lee. Unfortunately, due to the first rule, I can’t talk about fight club…
Setting: A rundown gym in a bad part of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In this gym is a boxing/wrestling ring that now has a cage over it.
Characters:
- Lee, of course.
- 3 Fighters (these guys are basically Tough Guy template straight from Monster Hunters 4.)
- ST 13; DX 12; IQ 10; HT 12.
Damage 1d/2d; BL 34 lbs.; HP 15; Will 10; Per 10; FP 12.
Basic Speed 6; Basic Move 6; Dodge 9.
5’11”, 190 lbs.
Advantages/Disadvantages: High Pain Threshold; Bad Temper (12); Bully (12); Overconfidence (12)
Skills: Brawling-14; Wrestling-13
Equipment: None.
- ST 13; DX 12; IQ 10; HT 12.
Sequence:
- Begin in media res with Lee participating in a fight club in Tulsa. He gets to take on three people at the same time.
- Why is he here? Ever since he’s seen the dead walk, he’s started re-evaluating all of his old case files, especially any of them where he’s put someone on death row. The case of Shay Mackenzie is one such example and he’s been re-examining all of his old case notes. The trail has led him here where he hopes to question RILEY PIKE, one of Mackenzie’s suspected associates (and a known lowlife) who was completely unavailable during her trial. To gain access to Pike, Lee must win through this fight club.
- The 3 Fighters are run by the other Players and use my normal NPC rules – can’t use Extra Effort, KO’ed at 0 HP. Since Lee can use all of these options, he’s likely to be victorious.
- Based on conversations with the player and some of his planned character direction, Lee is going to discover that he really likes participating in Fight Club…
- Following Lee’s (expected) victory over his opponents, Lee is free to Interrogate Pike. He will learn that Pike first met Shay when she came seeking him. She wanted to learn how to handle herself in a fight and quickly proved to be very much a little miss badass. Pike once saw her take on six guys at once … and handily win.
- Pike knows all about the trial and will admit that he went to ground when Shay was arrested because he didn’t want to get linked to a break-in that he’d helped Shay with the night before she killed her parents. He can provide the address for this break-in … and it’s an Oklahoma City address.
