Metropolis … Or Not Interested, Thanks

DC & WB have announced their intent to do a Superman prequel series centered around Lois and Lex called Metropolis. I guess they like what Gotham has been doing and want more of that.

Me? I love Superman and his mythos but have always considered Lois Lane as the least interesting character in his supporting cast. Regardless of what they do with her, she ultimately remains the damsel in distress relying on Superman to pull her out danger and I find that stunningly dull. There are only so many times you can have one of her investigations put her in dire mortal danger only for Kal to blur in and rescue her. This was fine for storytelling in an earlier age, but now … now, there needs to be more.

Unfortunately, there really isn’t more you can do with her. I’m tired of her … but truthfully, I’m probably more tired of her fans…

Work Woes (aka “First World Problems”)

At my job, I’m primarily the QA guy – ostensibly, I check our software before we release it, hoping to minimize the inevitable bugs – but I’m also the backup support dude who handles the email and phone calls when the primary guy (Jim) is out. Last week, Jim took Wednesday to Friday off for vacation, which meant I had to come in early – we’ve got another guy to serve as the backup’s backup who is one of the boss’ sons so I don’t have to do 12 hour workdays when Jim is out.

Unfortunately, while on vacation, Jim managed to get the flu so he’s been out all week and it doesn’t look like he’ll be in tomorrow or Friday either. Which means … ugh. I freaking hate having to get up at 0730.

Also? I honestly hate his job. I hate having to do support in any capacity … and Jim has been making serious noises about retiring…

Traveller Characters and Subplots

So, at the moment, there are six PCs in this campaign (since one player had to bow out.) The below are links to their stats (not sure how current they all are):

Since I operate on a “Character Subplots are Essential” mindset, I’m attempting to figure out what all I’d like to do with them individually in terms of plot and I have a few ideas. This is in addition to the whole “let’s expand the company to a massive shipping and freight corporation” I’d like to toy with. I’m hoping that the players exercise discretion and don’t read further should they bother looking at my blog at all…

Recap and GM Notes: Traveller 4.01

Outline recap can be found here if one doesn’t want to listen to 3 and a half hours.

So, I assumed GM duties for our Traveller campaign this Saturday (1/20/18) and my first task was resolving the cliffhanger that the previous GM left us in. Overall, I was left fairly satisfied with how the game played out but naturally, there were some issues I wasn’t wholly satisfied with.

Blade Runner 2049

So, I watched this movie yesterday – never got around to it when it was in the theaters – and … it kind of bored me. I have relatively fond memories of the original although admittedly, I haven’t watched it in a long time, but this flick was just relentlessly dull to me. It was very pretty, of course, and I liked the music so much that I went ahead and bought the soundtrack on Amazon (then I noticed it was by Hans Zimmer, so my appreciation made sense.) And the holographic girlfriend played by Ana de Armas was an appealing character (and wow, that woman is gorgeous) but I just couldn’t get into this movie at all.

And because I can…

GM Duties Resuming…

So next Saturday (1/20), I’ll be taking over the reins for our ongoing GURPS Traveller game. Whee…

One player down, but that’s fine. Probably for the best, though I’m going to have to figure out how to write her out in such a way that she can show back up should circumstances warrant it (e.g., the player decides to sit in on a session or three.)
