Game Prep: Traveller, 4.08 (Part Deux)

Found an awesome city map that I’m going to use for the opening encounter:

Sam’s building is the L-shaped one in the middle. I’ve edited the image with some dots – the brighter red ones are where security teams will deploy to provide overwatch (likely teams of two) while the rest of the soldiers plan to breach the building. The darker red was originally going to be where the dropships will “land” but I just had a neat thought …

Sae observed one of the utility vertol come in and deploy their troopers (vertol stats in UT say they carry 8 passengers, so two teams of four makes sense). These teams begin rushing forward. At the same time, though, Sae will note that the other vertol hovers over the roof of Sam’s building long enough to deploy their soldiers. The intent is obvious here: Ground Team surrounds the building ensure the targets don’t get away while Roof Team descends to either engage the target or flush them out so they encounter the other team.

This means I can run two encounters simultaneously – one, with the PCs in the apartment building versus Roof Team and the other with Sae (and maybe Aris if he decides to get involved) versus some of the ground team.

Hell yeah. I’m liking that a whole lot more. Especially if, should the situation really start to go south, I can have rival corporate forces race into the encounter to throw in another level of complexity…

It  also occurs to me that this might be an excellent point to do the “he’s driving Jim and gets killed…” plot thread. Maybe have Roxy use her storm carbine versus him while they’re exfiltrating? This way, she’s actually shown to be a real threat and the PCs have a further desire to put her down. Let’s see, her storm carbine has the electrothermal-chemical propellant thing going on so it does 10d+2 pi+ so on average, she’s doing 32 points of pi+ damage. Although … she’s not stupid so she’ll have APEP rounds so 10d+2(3) pi instead. Aris is wearing monocrys so he’s got DR 24; armor divisor 3 means it protects against 8, so 24 points will get through. To my surprise, that’s not going to to actually be a death check (1 point away) but on the presumption that I roll higher than average, it is. If she can target his vitals, this becomes 72 hit points getting through … which is insta-death. I like this mental image, of her taking a shot at them just as they’re dusting off in the utility vertol and dropping Aris so Eddy has something to do during the chase (although ultimately his efforts will be futile due to the damage…)

Hmm. That could also be a more logical reason for them to seek out Abe as well…

Yeah. I think my plan is coming together…
