Planning now begins for Chapter 3. As stated in my commentary for chapter 2, I’m planning to have Lee sit this one out – originally, he wasn’t even supposed to show up in Clean Slate at all, but since he’s basically just going to sit outside an office while Lady Aoibheal bargains with a lawyer … well, that isn’t very exciting so…
Anyway, the following is basically what I’ve now got in mind for chapter three.

This session ended up being a week later than originally planned – Sofia’s player had to miss the originally planned game night due to work and Woo’s player didn’t show (we later found out that he went home after work and fell asleep until 1 a.m.) Overall, I was mostly satisfied with it.

Planning continues for this week’s session. We’re down one player due to work – Sofia, which lets me punt slightly for her – but presumably, the other three are still going to be present. If one of them drops, then we’ll have to cancel this week and two of those players are notorious for dropping at the last second, so I’ll say there’s a better than fifty percent chance that this will be a bye-week. I’m really hoping that this isn’t going to be a repeat of Volume 3 where we actually gamed like every other week due to absences.
Anyway, the following is basically what I’ve now got in mind for chapter two. Some of this has shown up before in previous posts, but now I’m fleshing stuff out since we’ve started playing.

As stated, there were four main scenes and they worked out fairly well. It was a little shorter than I would have liked – two of the players were late due to circumstances out of their control, and then we BS’ed a bit more than we should have – but overall, it was fine.

Hurried re-planning for my Dresden Files GURPS game is the thing today. One of my players unfortunately had to drop out temporarily due to his 40+ hour work week along with a full course-load at school – he’s working on his Masters in … something highly technical – so I had to rush and figure out what to do. There is only a single PC active here, Howard Lee. Unfortunately, due to the first rule, I can’t talk about fight club…

Now that I have the name of the final PC, I’ve started working on background elements for the character. As stated before (I think), I was heavily influenced by the Netflix Marvel stuff, specifically the Daredevil and Iron Fist shows (the latter of which I thought had great potential hampered by poor fight choreography, bad plotting and terrible characterizations.) Now that the Defenders is out and we’ve got more insight into the Hand, I’ve got more to work with and to no one’s surprise, I’m totally going to bring in ninjas.

Am officially back to normalcy … and I already kind of hate it. I’m actually quite amazed at how much effort it has taken to re-acclimate myself to my car after having driven the rental SUV for five or six days. If I go to GenCon next year, though, I am totally flying and renting something there.
Anyway … this coming Friday is the resumption of my GURPS Monster Hunters game, Red Sky, although right now, the plan is to use that session for everyone to re-review their characters, make any changes or updates, finalize anything that needs it (like the fricking name of a new PC because that player is absolutely terrible about actually having an online presence, despite being the youngest member of the gaming group), and so on. Once that’s done, we’re going to do some fight club to remind the players what they’re characters are actually capable of. As stated elsewhere (I think), there has been sufficient time between sessions for everyone to forget what they can do and in two examples, the characters are new or might as well be due to changes we’ve made. For the actual fight club, I’m going to have Matias get into a John Wick kind of shoot-out while Lee (whose player is definitely a GURPS expert) will have a fist-fight with the Nameless PC (whose player is definitely a GURPS newbie); my intent with the latter is to just pair the players off and basically delegate the scenario and instruction stuff to Lee’s player so I can concentrate on the others. The remaining two players are likely to be pressed into service playing the faceless mooks shooting at (or getting shot by) Mat.
If everything goes right, the week after that (1 September) will be the official first chapter of Volume VI: Clean Slate where I kick off with the previously mentioned adventure starts (Apartment Attack, Penthouse Standoff, Ghost Library and Casino Escapades.)
Yeah. I’m ready/not-ready…
So, continuing my work on shamelessly ripping off Neverwhere by Gaiman for my GURPS: Monster Hunters game set in the Dresden Files universe, I’ve also started robbing from Doctor Who, principally for descriptive prose.

In the course of the upcoming Volume VI: Clean Slate of my ongoing Monster Hunters game set in the Dresden Files universe, a couple of the characters are going to get involved in “Blood Sugar,” which was originally a d20 Modern Adventure using the Urban Arcana campaign setting and written by Stan!

Despite my brain still churning over Traveller stuff, it looks like I will be taking the GM reins for the Friday face-to-face group in two weeks, which is right before GenCon. My current intent is to use that pre-GenCon week to work through character stuffs and maybe do some “fight club” – having Lee fight the new guy is inevitable, but with our rejiggering of Mat, he’s clearly going to have to get into a John Wick firefight. This way, when we come back the week after GenCon, the players have had at least a little time re-familiarizing themselves with the PCs. But that’s not all I have to get ready which means I really need to get off my butt and get to work.
Things I think I need to accomplish:
- Figure out what to do for Colin & Sofia in Session 2.
- Stats for “sugar slave” in Session 3 (for OSBI encounter) though truthfully, this is probably just a Red Shirt Cop with a Zombie template attached to it. I suppose I could just use the Fast Zombie from MH3 p14 and just add heat & water vulnerabilities. Yeah. Let’s do that.
- Figure out the nature of the Three Pursuers in session 3 (Colin)
- Stats for “candy golems” (both Small and Huge.) Also need stats for the Cultists, but I’ll probably just use my previous Shooters while reducing their equipment. This is likely going to be my next project.
